🟢 Beginner:

Amara wants a haircut.
"Short, please!" she says.
The hairdresser cuts her hair very short, which Amara does not want.
"Oh no!" Amara says. "Too short!"
The hairdresser looks sorry.

🟡 Intermediate:

Amara goes to a new hair salon.
"I want it short," she says.
The stylist nods but misunderstands.
When she looks in the mirror, she gasps.
"This is… very short!"
The stylist apologizes. "It will grow back!"
Amara sighs, "Well, at least it’s different!"

Expression: Not what I had in mind (not what someone expected or wanted)
• Salon (noun, a place where people get haircuts and beauty treatments)
• Stylist (noun, a person who cuts or styles hair and clothing)
• Misunderstand (verb, to not understand correctly)

🔴 Advanced:

Amara tries a trendy new salon but struggles to explain what she wants.
"I’d like it just above my shoulders with some layers," she says.
The stylist nods confidently.
Minutes later, she sees the result—her hair is nearly chin-length.
"Well," she says, "I guess I needed a change anyway!"

Expression: A bold move (a decision that is risky or takes confidence)
• Trendy (adjective, stylish or fashionable at the moment)
• Struggle (verb, to have difficulty doing something)
• Layer (noun, a thin section on top of or under something else)
• Chin-length (adjective, hair that reaches the chin)
